Answering some questions

Because we are receiving questions related to IFAIMA Membership, here you have some answers:

IFAIMA envisages to represent national AIM and COM service providers staff Associations. That is why we encourage people that don't have a National Association, to form one themselves and then, apply as Association to IFAIMA Membership. This would be the ideal situation.

IFAIMA may consider also, the possibility of accepting Unions instead of Associations if inexistent in the country.

If you don't want or can't form that kind of Association in your countries, IFAIMA's By-Laws only accept the possibility of Individual Membership. This individual can only represent himself, not a group of people. But this would be something we could consider in the future and maybe change our By-Laws in this direction, for now that is not possible, we are just starting and we are not "perfect".

Finally the other possibility is a Corporate Membership, its purpose if for corporations or other organizations AIM and COM related. The ANSPs, Authorities and other corporations (e.g. Technical), as companies, could be for example, Corporate Members of IFAIMA.

Major differences between, Associations, Individual and Corporate Membership:

Associate Association may vote and participate on decisions taken on Assemblies, also be candidates to Executive Board offices;
Individuals may participate on Assemblies, be candidates to Executive Board offices, but may not vote;
Corporate may participate on Assemblies, but may not vote nor be candidates to Executive Board offices.

I hope I have cleared up your minds a little bit. For more information read the FAQ page on our website and don't hesitate to ask more questions if you have them.

Best regards

Jorge Dias
Executive Secretary
